Tarot Cards—History and Origins

Tarot card reading is known to be an already ancient art which some psychic readers use to provide a person in need with answers and perhaps guidance. Reading of tarots by psychics is also a very long time practice which dates many centuries back. Today, tarot readings are still present and many tend to use them for special purposes.

Many thought that tarot cards have originated from Egypt. However, this claim is simply false as the first preserved deck was known to have originated in Italy and was specially created for the Italian Visconti-Sforza family way back in 1450. These cards were carefully hand painted hence not everyone back then can afford one. Due to the limited availability and pricey cost of these cards, only the upper class society is able to own a deck. However, with the advent of the printing press, tarot cards were produced in large numbers making them highly available for the many.

Another false claim about these cards is that they were first brought in by the gypsies. The fact is, the first of gypsies only came about very long after the tarot cards were first created. Furthermore, tarots were not originally utilized for foretelling but they were first used for playing card games such as the well known French card game, tarock.

The tarot cards were then first adopted by mystics or psychics during the 18th and the 19th century as the cards began to have images that are more symbolic and magical. The images in the cards each have a representation or link between certain aspects of life hence they became the tarot cards known today. Many also believe that some playing cards also have a divination link. However, it is the tarots that became the most popular particularly because of their peculiar and intricate design and images.

A dedicated tarot reader usually uses only one devoted pack of tarot cards from which she has a strong connection to. And only the reader can have that connection with her deck hence only she can conduct a reading from it. Though anyone can buy a pack of tarots, only a few are successful in forming a connection with the cards. Tarots are powerless and ordinary without a reader. This means that reading tarots will also require a gifted psychic tarot reader. A tarot reader is one that possess and extra sensory ability and special powers which allows her to connect with the past, the present, and the future of a person who is having a reading.
